The Grand Bazaar  The Covered Bazaar
A huge bazaar built in the 15th century located in the middle of Istanbul's historical center.

The foundations of one of the most outstanding covered markets of Istanbul, the Grand Bazaar, which stretch from Beyazit to Nuruosmaniye, were laved out immediately after the conquest of Istanbul.

This was started by Sultan Ahmet over 500 years ago, perhaps the world's first covered mall. the Grand Bazaar now has 4000 small shops, each one specializing some sell only leather items, some sell only brass goods, some only jewelry, some only textiles, etc.

It is possible to find hand designed golden adornments in the Grand Bazaar.

If you don't find your heart's desire in one place. keep walking. Shopping isn't my cup of tea, but this is an impressive display of gifts, jewelry, textiles, souvenirs, arts, crafts, etc. Some of the passages have many shops all selling similar items. Ladies are guaranteed to flip over the Grand Bazaar.

The covered bazaar itself consisted of the Bedesten at the centre, which was entred by four main gates, the Gates of the Sahaflar ( Goldsmiths ), Takkeciler ( Hat – Makers ). Zenneciler ( Fripperies Woman's Garments ) and Kuyumcular ( Jewellers ).
